Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pouilly-Vinzelles Village "Cuvée Zen" 2024 from Domaine de la Soufrandière
Tasting
Colour
This Pouilly-Vinzelles shows a luminous, elegant pale yellow colour with light golden highlights, consistent with a Chardonnay grown on limestone soil, harvested at good ripeness and partly aged in oak.
Nose
The nose is fine and expressive, led by floral notes of acacia and white flowers, mingled with hints of dried lemon zest, fennel and star anise, adding a subtly spiced, aniseed dimension to the whole.
Palate
The palate reveals the nobility of Chardonnay through a rich, pure and tactile texture, supported by discreet oak. The freshness and minerality of the clay-limestone terroir come fully to the fore, resulting in a balanced structure and a lovely long finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs harmoniously with delicate fish such as sole or turbot, shellfish and crustaceans such as scallops or warm oysters, as well as white meats in cream and mushroom sauces. It is also a natural match for cooked pressed-curd cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and cellaring
Pouilly-Vinzelles Village "Cuvée Zen" 2024 is ideally served between 10 and 12°C, opened shortly before tasting to allow the wine to reveal its full aromatic palette. It can be enjoyed within the first few years following its release. Due to its low sulfite content, it is advisable to store it at a moderate, constant temperature.
A Pouilly-Vinzelles True to the Minerality of the Les Quarts Climat
The estate
The Domaine de la Soufrandière was founded in 1947 by Jules Bret in Vinzelles, in Burgundy. Since 2000, the estate has been run by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret, who chose organic and biodynamic farming as soon as they took over the family property. Renowned for its meticulous work on the Les Quarts climat, the estate has earned particular distinction for its "Zen" cuvées, vinified with minimal sulfite use.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Les Quarts climat in Pouilly-Vinzelles. The clay-limestone soils, rich in red iron oxide over a Bajocian limestone bedrock, enjoy an east and south-east exposure. The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, without herbicides, with soil work that respects microbial life.
Vinification and ageing
Pouilly-Vinzelles Village "Cuvée Zen" 2024 comes from a manual harvest followed by whole-bunch pressing. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without any added sulfur during this phase. Ageing is split between stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, with no new oak used.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay.
