Description
A complex and fresh South Australian red wine
The estate
The prestigious magazine, Wine Enthusiast, honoured Penfolds as their 2013 New World Winery of the Year, the Penfolds estate had already established itself as an icon of fine Australian wines at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to Mary Penfold’s unparalleled determination. Indeed, the co-founder of the Penfolds estate put her heart and soul into making exceptional wines. Her lifelong work is reflected in the winery's success in establishing itself as a benchmark in Southern Australia. When Max Schubert became part of the Penfolds' story in the 1950s, he instilled the elegance of fine Bordeaux wines, that fascinated him greatly, into the estate's wines. Success shortly followed when the cellar master produced his famous Grange wines, which crossed Australian borders in order to win the hearts of wine lovers from all around the world. Today, the talented Peter Gago has taken over this role.
The vineyard
Penfolds' 2019 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz comes from several regions in South Australia: McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthaway, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully. This diversity enriches the wines and provides an insight into a wide range of Australia’s finest wine regions.
The wine
Nicknamed 'Baby Grange', Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz was also made in 1960 by legendary winemaker, Max Schubert. This wine helped establish Penfolds' reputation among red wine lovers as it combines both the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the richness of Syrah.
