Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Montrachet Grand Cru "Marquis de Laguiche" 2024 by Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a luminous, brilliant golden hue, typical of the great ripe Chardonnays of the Côte de Beaune.
Nose
The nose opens with a bouquet of white flowers mingled with fresh fruit and citrus, before giving way to notes of almonds, then richer touches of honey, exotic fruit and rare woods.
Palate
The palate captivates with its harmonious roundness, never heavy, carried by a distinct freshness and purity. The balance between richness and tension extends into a finish of remarkable length.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Grand Cru pairs well with white meats, poultry or turkey served with creamy sauces, but also with game soup, fresh pasta or crab-based dishes enlivened with mayonnaise. It also holds its own alongside more refined dishes such as shellfish or crustaceans.
Serving and Cellaring
The Montrachet Grand Cru "Marquis de Laguiche" 2024 is a wine for long cellaring, which can be kept and enjoyed for many years to come.
A Montrachet Grand Cru from the Largest Parcel of the Climat, Vinified by Maison Joseph Drouhin
The Estate
Founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, the eponymous house is now run by the fourth family generation: Véronique, Philippe, Laurent and Frédéric Drouhin. Committed since the late 1980s to organic and biodynamic farming, it is considered a pioneer in Burgundy. The de Laguiche family has owned the Marquis de Laguiche parcel since 1776 and has entrusted its cultivation and vinification to Maison Joseph Drouhin since 1947.
The Vineyard
The Montrachet "Marquis de Laguiche" comes from the largest parcel of the Montrachet Climat, located entirely on the Puligny-Montrachet side, on a gentle slope with a south-easterly exposure. The soil, made up of reddish-brown earth scattered with polished white limestone pebbles, promotes effective drainage while retaining a useful water reserve in dry periods. The vineyard is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was marked by difficult weather conditions that weighed on the harvest, reducing available volumes. Thanks to rigorous grape sorting and precise vinification, the estate nevertheless managed to preserve the quality and purity of the fruit despite this challenging climate.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes for the Montrachet Grand Cru "Marquis de Laguiche" 2024 are hand-harvested into perforated crates, then carefully sorted before slow pressing in a pneumatic press, which separates the free-run juice from the final press juice. After a light settling, the must is transferred to oak barrels for alcoholic and malolactic fermentations. Ageing then continues for 18 to 21 months, with approximately 30% new barrels made from French oak.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
