Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 from Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Colour
The colour is a golden hue with luminous highlights, reflecting both the ripeness of the grapes and the richness of the terroir.
Nose
The nose is subtle and complex, blending delicate floral notes with touches of citrus, stone fruit, honey, fresh almond and gentle spice, in a whole of great aromatic finesse.
Palate
The palate is both ample and lively, carried by crisp acidity and a tight texture that structures the whole. The balance between generosity and tension extends into a particularly long, persistent finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white grand cru shows its full expression alongside noble poultry with refined sauces, as well as delicate fish served in a sauce, such as fish with beurre blanc or in puff pastry. It also pairs beautifully with tarragon chicken, for an elegant match between the richness of the wine and the delicacy of the dish.
Serving and Cellaring
The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 is best served at around 12 to 14°C, in a generous white wine glass that allows its aromas to express themselves fully. Light decanting may be considered for the youngest bottles, in order to reveal the wine's full aromatic palette. The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 will evolve favourably in the cellar for several years.
A Grand Cru from the Côte de Beaune with a Precise, Mineral Style
The Estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, in Burgundy, by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin is now run by the fourth generation of the family, including Frédéric, Véronique, Philippe and Laurent Drouhin. The Burgundy vineyard extends over nearly 100 hectares, from Chablis to the Mâconnais, and is entirely farmed organically and biodynamically. The House has also been established in Oregon since 1987, confirming its identity as both traditional and pioneering.
The Vineyard
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is born on the hillside overlooking the village of Aloxe-Corton, with parcels spread across the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses. The vines enjoy a full easterly exposure and are rooted in brown limestone soils scattered with small stones, which promote efficient drainage and natural temperature regulation. The vineyard is managed according to organic and biodynamic principles, with high planting density and hand harvesting.
The Vintage
The climatic conditions specific to each year directly influence the expression of Corton-Charlemagne, with Maison Joseph Drouhin paying particular attention to reading the character of the vintage in the handling of its wines.
Vinification and Ageing
The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 is vinified according to the House's traditional methods, with alcoholic and malolactic fermentation carried out in French oak barrels. The ageing, lasting 18 to 21 months, is carried out with constant attention to tasting, in order to preserve the wine's balance and precision.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
