Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Meursault Village "Sous la Velle" 2024 from Domaine Rémi Jobard
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a lemon-yellow hue with green highlights, a sign of the Chardonnay's balanced maturity.
Nose
The nose of this cuvée typically opens with notes of citrus and peach, accompanied by delicate white floral nuances, touches of brioche and almond, underpinned by a chalky minerality.
Palate
On the palate, this terroir at the foot of the slope yields a rich, savoury texture, supported by well-integrated acidity and a slight bitterness reminiscent of citrus peel. Together, they give the wine remarkable tension and length for a Meursault Village.
Food and wine pairings
This Meursault Village "Sous la Velle" pairs beautifully with noble fish such as turbot or sole, shellfish such as langoustine, and herb-roasted poultry. It is also an excellent match for dishes enriched with cream or mushrooms, as well as for pressed cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
The Meursault Village "Sous la Velle" 2024 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. We recommend decanting it about thirty minutes before serving, particularly while young, to reveal its full aromatic complexity.
A Meursault Village from Domaine Rémi Jobard, reflecting a terroir of gravel and limestone
The estate
The Domaine Rémi Jobard is a family estate in Meursault, in Burgundy, where the family has tended vines for several generations. Rémi Jobard, the fifth generation, took over the reins of the estate in 1993 and began converting the vineyard, which covers approximately eight to nine hectares, to certified organic farming. Recognised as one of the benchmark producers of the appellation, he favours low-intervention winemaking and extended ageing in barrel, for a precise and mineral expression of his terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Sous la Velle" cuvée comes from a climat of Meursault located at the foot of the slope, just below the Château de la Velle. The soils are composed of gravel and limestone, conducive to good grape concentration and a pronounced mineral expression. The organically farmed vineyard benefits from the sunshine of the main slope of Meursault while retaining a certain freshness thanks to its position at the foot of the slope.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Meursault Village "Sous la Velle" 2024 are vinified following a low-intervention philosophy, with fermentations carried out using native yeasts. As with previous vintages of this cuvée, the wine is aged in Austrian Stockinger demi-muids, with a moderate proportion of new oak, allowing the terroir to express itself without excessive oak influence. The wine benefits from extended barrel ageing over two winters, which gives it its natural stability.
Grape variety
This wine is crafted from 100% Chardonnay, the emblematic grape variety of the great white wines of Burgundy.
