Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Saint-Véran Village 2022 from Domaine Jules Desjourneys
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a luminous golden-yellow colour with brilliant highlights.
Nose
Remarkably pure, the nose reveals aromas of ripe white fruit such as pear and peach, intertwined with scents of acacia blossom and candied citrus. Subtle notes of honey, fresh hazelnut and flint complete this complex bouquet.
Palate
Ample and precise, the palate offers a silky, finely chiselled texture. This Saint-Véran stands out for its vibrant limestone-driven minerality, which carries the wine towards a long, dynamic and elegant finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with scallop tartare, roast sea bass with lemon butter or chicken in a cream sauce. It is also an excellent match for white asparagus or aged goat's cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, the Saint-Véran Village 2022 is best served at a temperature of between 11 and 13°C, ideally decanted for around twenty minutes in its youth. This wine can be cellared until around 2032.
The elegance and purity of a great Burgundy wine
The estate
Formally founded in 2007 by Fabien Duperray, its current owner, Domaine Jules Desjourneys quickly established itself as an essential benchmark. Located in La Chapelle de Guinchay, on the border between Beaujolais and Burgundy, the estate pursues excellence through an organic and biodynamic approach. Drawing on his experience alongside prestigious winemakers, the founder favours controlled yields and long ageing to express the quintessence of his terroirs. Acclaimed by critics, the estate produces rare and highly sought-after cuvées that combine precision, depth and absolute respect for the fruit.
The vineyard
From the Saint-Véran appellation, this wine comes more specifically from the Les Condemines lieu-dit, located in the commune of Leynes. This exceptional terroir rests on soils rich in limestone and white marl, with the presence of Triassic clays. Benefiting from a semi-continental climate with southern influences, the old vines are tended by hand with the utmost care, encouraging deep rooting and optimal ripeness of the grapes.
The vintage
2022 was marked by generally hot weather conditions. However, the specific characteristics of the terroir and the rigorous management of ripening allowed the vines to withstand these conditions, thereby preserving the natural balance of the growing cycle.
Winemaking and ageing
The philosophy in the cellar is based on minimal intervention. The Saint-Véran Village 2022 is fermented in barrels that have already held several wines, with no new oak whatsoever. The wine is then aged on its lees for 18 to 24 months, lending complexity to its texture before bottling.
